12 Inch Nonstick Skillet

A 12 inch nonstick skillet is an essential tool for any home cook.  It is as important as a sauté pan, a chef’s knife and of course, a stockpot.  There are number of dishes that cannot be cooked in any other way than on a 12 inch nonstick skillet, so choose one with care and look after it, so that you can enjoy cooking with for years to come.

  1. How to choose the right 12 inch nonstick skillet.  Consider the brand and the type of nonstick coating on the 12 inch nonstick skillet before you buy.  Remember, if you see a low price that seems too good to be true, question the quality.  We are looking for a 12 inch nonstick skillet that is made to cook efficiently and be durable.  As always, consider the construction and whether it will have good heat distribution, but also look closely at the nonstick coating.  Do not buy a 12 inch nonstick skillet which only has one layer of nonstick coating or one that has a silicone finish.  They are easily scratched and do not last long in a busy kitchen.
  2. How to use a 12 inch nonstick skillet.  Use a lower heat for cooking; your food will not get stuck, thanks to the nonstick coating.  Using a high heat is a traditional method of preventing your food from sticking, but this is not a problem with a 12 inch nonstick skillet. Use your 12 inch nonstick skillet with foods that used to get stuck on your normal pots and pans: especially eggs and fish.
  3. Be aware of the safety rules.  The coating of a 12 inch nonstick skillet contains carcinogens which, if heated without there being any oil or food in the skillet, will give off fumes that can cause nausea in humans and can be fatal to small pets. Therefore, it is vitally important that you never heat up an empty 12 inch nonstick skillet.  Rest assured, however, that when the 12 inch nonstick skillet surface is at room temperature, the chemicals are completely safe.
  4. Caring for your 12 inch nonstick skillet.  Even a 12 inch nonstick skillet with the thickest layers of protective coating will get damaged if you clean it with any type of scouring brush or hard sponge.  All a 12 inch nonstick skillet needs is a gentle wash with a soft sponge in soap and water.
  5. How to store your 12 inch nonstick skillet.  One of the best ways to store your 12 inch nonstick skillet is to hang it from a kitchen hook.  If you do store your 12 inch nonstick skillet in a cupboard, put it on top and do not be tempted to put any other pans inside it because this could easily cause scratches which will reduce its nonstick ability.
